Infectious Betrayal

Infectious Betrayal

We all grew up feeling betrayed in a lot of ways-especially when we are hurt by a member of our group or when they stop playing with us or joins another team all because of a spat.

Betrayal is when someone you trust lies to you, cheats on you, abuses you, or hurts you by putting their self-interest first.

Betrayal comes in various forms and means different things that aren’t so good for the betrayer. Most of what we feel about being betrayed steers from our expectations from other people we trust. It can also come from various illusions we have alluded ourselves to be in the first place.

To better understand what betrayal is all about, we look at it from the angle of trust. An example would be working with the same business supplier for a long time and all of a sudden, he or she is nowhere to be found because you have often paid upfront. That can be a devasting loss.

The other way of understanding betrayal is the illusion we have about how everything is perfect until the bubble burst. An example as well would be a man or a woman who was promised by his partner to stay faithful until marriage. Only to find out at the wedding night that he or she has been promiscuous from the start. That is another devastating blow to handle.

Betrayal can come at a loss

We often refer to the death of a loved one as a loss too painful to swallow therefore we grief. Betrayal feels that way as well. People who place their trust on some people believe so much in their value otherwise it wouldn’t hurt so much. This situation happens a lot in rival settings, especially in sports. An opposing team comes and snaps up the best player from the other side, and all hell is let loose including death threat (forgetting it’s a sport)

The fans live under the illusion their best player will be with them and not move to a rival team.

The book “infectious betrayal” throws light on the types of betrayals that can happen to families and how they deal with. In this case, it was the Thompsons. An all-American nuclear family with an unremarkable – if not happy – home life. They allowed a stranger into their lives and ended up getting betrayed. Should they accept it like few people do, or fight to stay together? These and much more are what is wrapped under the covers of this book.

When Larry and Sherry took Steve as a close confidant, they didn’t know what was going to happen at the other side of the offer he proposed. The cabin he picked for their vacation to mend their marriage ended up being the catalyst that wants to separate them.

The denial and shock of the betrayal be meted out by Steve will determine if the Thompson’s are going to unite and fight together or disappear forever.
